The Council for Geoscience (CGS) has observed with concern the accusatory statements made by the Boere Krisis Aksie on 20 February 2020 via social media. We accordingly place on record that the statement was issued without consultation with the management of the CGS to address the purported concerns. In collaboration with the Law enforcement Authorities, we have further resolved to investigate these allegations thoroughly. We intend to engage all affected and interested stakeholders upon the conclusion of the same within a period not exceeding a month. The reports from these comprehensive investigations will also direct the necessary actions to be duly considered in pursuit of justice.
The CGS would like to assure the farming community, traditional councils and all communities of its commitment to building and maintaining synergies, collaborations and healthy relationships in the execution of its mandate. We look forward to continuing to work with all our key stakeholders.
The CGS is established in terms of the Geoscience Act, Act 100 of 1993, which legislatively empowered it to be, inter alia, the sole custodian of all geoscientific information, both on- and off-shore.
