The laboratory refurbishment project has been commissioned to modernise and expand the laboratory section of the CGS in order to improve its services to internal and external customers. This project, among others, was undertaken to ensure that the MTEF projects are supported adequately over the medium to long term and that the capacity of the CGS to service external customers is enhanced.

 The high-level objectives of this project include:

• Replacement of old/ obsolete instruments and equipment;
• Replacement of uneconomical-to-repair instruments and equipment;
• Capacity expansion;
• Quality improvements;
• Scope expansion of services; and
• Establishment of a geotechnical section.
