On Thursday, 26 September 2019, the Auditor-General awarded the CGS the much-coveted PFMA Clean Audit award for the financial year 2018/2019. This prestigious award marks the culmination of 16 years of consecutive unqualified audits by the CGS. The Auditor-General’s Business Executive, Ms. Zolisa Zwakalisa, presented the award to the CGS Management team at our Silverton head office in Pretoria. Ms. Zwakala congratulated the CGS on this achievement and encouraged the Management team and staff to continue with the excellent work.

In accepting the award, the CGS CEO, Mr. Mosa Mabuza, emphasised that this milestone would not have been possible without the judicious leadership of the Audit & Risk Committee and the various Board chairpersons over the years. He also lauded the CFO and the Finance team, supported by the Strategy Management Manager and the Internal Auditor, for their hard work, which had undoubtedly enabled the organisation to achieve this honour. Mr. Mabuza pointed out that the levels of commitment that had led to the achievement of the award ought to be regarded as the “new normal” for the organisation and that the award should find a permanent home within the CGS. Mr. Mabuza further thanked the Auditor-General for being tough and rigorous on the CGS team. He urged this office to continue guiding institutions on following the right path to total compliance and clean governance. The Clean Audit award comes when public institutions face intense scrutiny over their governance and expenditure of public funds.

The Chairperson of the Board, Dr. Humphrey Mathe, commented that the CGS has come a long way and it is pleasing to see that the CGS had been rewarded for its diligence. He added that the achievement of this award had been made possible as a result of the continuous engagement of the CGS team with the Auditor-General’s office and the collective effort by CGS staff. Dr. Mathe urged the Management team to ensure that this award forms part of the organisation’s legacy.

Mr. Sandile Xulu, the Chairperson of the CGS Audit and Risk Committee, confirmed that the results indicate teamwork. He further encouraged CGS Management to continue steering the organisation upward to success. Moreover, he congratulated the CFO and all staff involved in the achievement. The CFO thanked his staff for their hard work and teamwork during this period; he attributed this laudable achievement to the team effort.

Well done to the CGS on achieving this great milestone – may this mark the beginning of many outstanding future achievements!
