STATEMENT ON SEISMIC EVENT THAT OCCURRED IN BUFFELSFONTEIN, DR KENNETH KAUNDA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) can confirm that an earthquake occurred on Thursday morning, 17 April 2025, at around 10:57 SAST. The preliminary results show that the earthquake registered local magnitude of approximately 3.7, as recorded by the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN). The epicentre was located in Buffelsfontein.

The public is encouraged to record their experiences using the available online questionnaire.
